James Brewer
James brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship with eleven years of experience implementing educationally focused programs and initiatives in the Boston area. For the last six years, James has worked as program coordinator for The Education Resource Institute (TERI). James has spent his last four years of service at TERI as the site coordinator at the Mildred Avenue Middle School, designing academic enrichment programs, coordinating professional development and assisting the school's leadership team in meeting yearly school objectives. Prior to his tenure with TERI, James served for three years as a community field coordinator at the Thompson Middle School. James earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and is completing a Masters degree in Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
Catherine Carney
Catherine brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship thirteen years of experience as an educator in the Boston area and three years of experience as a BPS administrator. For the past year, Catherine has served as an assistant headmaster at English High School in Jamaica Plain where she is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Academy of Science and Engineering small learning community. Prior to serving as an assistant headmaster, Catherine was a school support specialist, and before that a literacy coach. Catherine's additional leadership experiences in an educational setting include working at the Massachusetts Association of Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages where she led teacher professional development and at the Center for Youth Development and Education, where supported Gates Foundation funded alternative schools for at risk students. Catherine began her career in the Dedham public school system as an English as a second language instructor to both middle and high school students. Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Rhode Island and a Masters degree in The Art of Teaching English as a Second Language from Simmons College.
Catherine Chiu
Catherine brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship twelve years of experience serving students in the City of Boston. For the past five years, Catherine has served as program director for guidance and support services at Boston Latin Academy. In this capacity, Catherine has exhibited strong leadership in coordinating successful school-community partnerships that support student achievement. Prior to her tenure as program director of guidance and support services, Catherine also served as guidance counselor at Boston Latin School. Catherine is also a licensed school psychologist. Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Barnard College at Columbia University and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
Emily Cox
Emily brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship twelve years of teaching and leadership development experience. Emily is the founding French teacher at the Boston Collegiate Charter School (BCCS) in Dorchester, a school at which she served as high school principal from 2004-2006. An integral member of the BCCS staff, Emily has worked collaboratively with her colleagues to create a comprehensive curriculum for all students. Emily began her career teaching at Dundalk High School in Baltimore Maryland. Emily earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and Anthropology from Dickinson College and is completing a Masters degree in Educational Administration at the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
Marco Curnen
Marco brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship ten years of teaching experience in the Brookline Public Schools, where he has worked as a Spanish teacher at Brookline High School. During his tenure at Brookline High, Marco has served as a teacher leader. He has continuously modeled best practices for peers, while also serving on school-based committees aimed at improving student achievement. Marco has served as an advocate for culturally competent education, through his participation in and facilitation of Critical Friends Groups professional development meetings where teachers share best practices and receive support. Marco also served as a teacher leader for the Brookline Public Schools' Equity Project, an initiative targeted at eliminating the achievement gap. Prior to his tenure at Brookline High School, Marco served for two years as ProTech coordinator with the Boston Private Industry Council. Marco earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Williams College and a Masters degree in Education from Harvard University.
Michele Davis
Michele brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship seventeen years of experience teaching in the Boston Public Schools. For the past thirteen years, Michele has served as a second grade teacher at the Warren Prescott School in Charlestown. During her tenure at the Prescott, Michele assumed substantial leadership roles including serving as a mentor teacher, developing a literacy calendar for second grade, and modeling best teaching practices. Prior to working at the Warren Prescott, Michele served for one year as an English teacher at West Roxbury High School. Michele began her career as a teacher at the Donald McKay School in East Boston. Michele earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from St. Louis University and is completing a Masters degree in Administration from American International College.
Joseph Foley
Joseph brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship eight years of teaching experience inclusive of special education. For the past two years Joseph has served as a special education teacher at Orchard Gardens Pilot School in Roxbury. At Orchard Gardens, Joseph has exhibited strong teacher leadership skills by serving as an active member of the school's climate and community team, instructional leadership team, and whole school improvement planning team. Prior to his tenure at Orchard Gardens, Joseph served as lead special education teacher at Peres Elementary School in Richmond California. While at Peres Elementary, Joseph developed and implemented a collaborative learning center model. Joseph earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Masters degree in Special Education from San Francisco State.
Andrew Hall
Andrew brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship eleven years of teaching experience. For the past three years Andrew has served as a social studies teacher at Community Day Charter School in Lawrence. An avid believer in collaboration and sharing best practices, Andrew exhibited strong leadership skills during his tenure at Community Day Charter School as well as through his prior appointment at P.S. 41 in the Bronx section of New York City. Andrew earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Houghton College and a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Mercy College.
Kelly Hung
Kelly comes to the Boston Principal Fellowship from Boston Connects, where for the past four years, Kelly has served as a school site coordinator for the Hamilton Elementary School in Brighton. Kelly exhibited strong leadership skills by serving as an integral member of Hamilton Elementary School's instructional leadership team, math leadership team, and school site council. Prior to her tenure at Hamilton Elementary, Kelly served as both research assistant and project manager to the Racial & Ethical, Sensitivity Testing (R.E.S.T.) program developed by Boston College in collaboration with Boston Public Schools. Kelly earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Development from the University of Utah and a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and a C.A.E.S. in Educational Administration from Boston College.
Romaine Mills-Teque
Romaine brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship nineteen years of teaching and leadership development within the Boston Public Schools. For the past year Romaine has served as a new teacher developer for the BPS. In this capacity, she has worked throughout the school year supporting the development and teaching practice of thirteen first year teachers. Prior to her tenure as a new teacher developer, Romaine served as a kindergarten teacher at the Joyce Kilmer Elementary School. In both of these capacities, Romaine displayed strong leadership skills as a mentor, teacher leader and instructional team member. In addition to this, Romaine has designed and implemented numerous professional development trainings for not only her colleagues, but for many teachers throughout the district. Romaine's leadership contributions to the BPS have been an asset to both the BPS teaching and learning communities. Romaine earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Wheelock College.
William Thomas
William brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship nine years of mathematics teaching experience in the Boston Public Schools. For the past six years William has served as a teacher and teacher leader at English High School in Jamaica Plain. An active member of the English High School community, William served on the school site committee, and instructional leadership team, co-chaired the accreditation steering committee and served as the school's treasurer. Additionally, William was a member of the design team for the English High School Commonwealth Pilot School. Prior to working at English High School, William served as a mathematics teacher at the Umana/Barnes Middle School where he also served as the boy's basketball coach. William started his career as a paraprofessional at the Day Middle School in Newton, MA. William earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and a Masters in Teaching from Boston University.
Kris Taylor
Kris brings to the Boston Principal Fellowship twelve years of experience as an educator. For the past three years, Kris has served as a history coach in the Boston Public Schools. In this capacity, she collaborates with and supports teachers toward improving their practice. Kris also coordinated and led city-wide professional development workshops and seminars for K - 12 educators to meet district priorities. Prior to coaching, Kris served as a social studies teacher and teacher leader at the Woodrow Wilson Middle School. While serving at the Wilson, Kris was an active member of the school's Instructional Leadership Team. During her tenure as an educator, Kris has also served as a mentor teacher to student teachers from both Harvard University and Boston College. Kris earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Education from Harvard University.
